How to Boot and Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI When your computer experiences blue screen crashes, random freezes, or refuses to load the operating system altogether, a hardware malfunction could be the underlying cause. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI is a built-in, pre-OS diagnostic system that tests critical components like your RAM, hard drive, and processor independently of Windows. Running these tests outside the Windows environment ensures that buggy software or corrupted drivers do not interfere with the results. 🛠️ Step 1: Access the UEFI Diagnostics Menu

You can access the built-in UEFI interface directly at startup, even if Windows fails to boot.

Shut down your HP computer completely by holding the power button for 5 seconds. Press the Power button to turn the computer back on.

Immediately tap the Esc key repeatedly (about once every second) until the Startup Menu appears on the screen. Press the F2 key to launch System Diagnostics.

Note: If the utility does not open or is missing from your hard drive, skip to the USB method below. 🏃‍♂️ Step 2: Run a System Test

The main menu offers comprehensive test options categorized by duration and depth.

[HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Main Menu] ├── System Tests <– Start Here ├── Component Tests ├── Test Logs └── Language / Exit Option A: The Fast Test (Recommended First Step)

This scan takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes to verify the integrity of core system components. Click System Tests on the main menu. Select Fast Test. Click Run once.

If the first pass completes without issues, click Continue to run the second pass. Option B: The Extensive Test

If the Fast Test fails to find an error but your computer is still malfunctioning, run this deep scan. It can take 2 hours or more to finish. Navigate to System Tests. Select Extensive Test. Click Run once or Loop until error. 🔍 Step 3: Run Isolated Component Tests

If you suspect a very specific part of your PC is broken (such as a glitchy keyboard or a battery that won’t charge), you can bypass the full system sweeps. Return to the Main Menu. Click Component Tests.

Select the specific component you want to test (e.g., Processor, Memory, Storage/Hard Drive, Power/Battery, or Keyboard). Follow the on-screen prompts to execute the targeted test. 📋 Step 4: Interpret the Results and Error Codes

As the tests run, the software will display a live status alongside each component.

PASSED: The component is functioning normally at a hardware level. Your computer issue is likely software, driver, or operating system related.

FAILED: The tool will generate a 24-digit Failure ID and a specific product number.

⚠️ What to do if a test fails: Write down the 24-digit code exactly as shown, or scan the on-screen QR Code with your smartphone. This code maps directly to the broken component, allowing HP Customer Support to fast-track your warranty claim or repair request. 🚀 Alternative: Booting from a USB Drive

If your local hard drive is completely corrupted or unreadable, the F2 diagnostic menu might not open. You can run the environment from a flash drive instead. HP PCs – Testing for hardware failures
